Industry Leaders Record Rapid Growth

Rotherham-based Martek Marine has recorded significant growth since its beginnings in 2000 due to an increase in world trade and ship numbers in recent years.
Martek, which is a world leader in safety and environmental monitoring systems for the global marine industry, has recorded an increase in turnover from £110k in 2000 to a projected £10.8m in 2008.
To cope with its rapid growth, the company, which was ranked at number 16 on the Sunday Times Fast Track, has expanded its team from just 3 people in 2000, to over 60 in 2008.
Vanessa Muff, Marketing Manager of Martek Marine said: "Although shipping has always been regarded as relatively environmentally friendly compared to other forms of transport, the industry is growing fast, with emissions anticipated to rise by 75% in the next 12 years.* This places an enormous amount of pressure on maritime companies to reduce emissions and comply with environmental regulations. As a result of the increased number of ships put in to operation over recent years, sales of our environmental products have soared and we have seen massive growth in terms of turnover, staffing levels and product offering's to the industry."
The business has won numerous prestigious awards in recent years, including the CBI's Growing Business Award, two Queen's Awards for Enterprise and numerous Seatrade Awards including the Protection of the Marine and Atmospheric Environment award in April of this year for its pioneering MariNOx® system. MariNOx® was the first marine engine emissions monitoring system to be delivered to the industry, and is purchased by shipping companies to aid them in complying with environmental regulations, in addition to helping them to save on fuel costs.
From its origins in the bedrooms of the three founders, the company has advanced dramatically and plans to expand on their current new premises to a further 13,000 ft space. Martek continues to exceed expectations;
