Local entrepreneur Matt Lovett has been awarded the Daily Mail Enterprising Young Brit Award for his company Wow Media at a prestigious award ceremony hosted by Alistair Darling.
17 year-old Lovett won the award in the ‘Teen' category and received a £1000 prize for his internet marketing company Wow Media which consists of a collection of cashback and reward websites offering visitors discounts on goods and services and employs six people at its Birmingham office.
The awards are backed by the Institute of Directors and the Government in conjunction with Make Your Mark - a national campaign to encourage entrepreneurship in the UK.
Lovett said of his award win: "It is a fantastic achievement to win this award and for Wow Media to be recognised by leaders in the business world is a fantastic achievement for me. I am really excited about the future and the growth of the business in 2009. It just goes to show it doesn't matter what your age is, what matters is how good your idea is."
Lovett funded his first cashback website through money made selling sweets on the school bus to other children aged 13 and cites Richard Branson and Dragon's Den's Peter Jones as his inspiration.
Lovett's latest project is www.wowvouchercodes.com offering discounts and deals from a variety of brand name retailers, including Asda, Argos, AVON, Dixons, Boots, Currys, hotels.com, lastminute.com, Littlewoods, Jessops and Play.com, typically offering up to 70% discount on either the High Street or standard listed online prices.
