Keredy Andrews
Well here I am in the office on day two, an official member of the Punch Communications team. It's not been too scary because I met the team on a very jolly pre-induction the other week, which involved a day trip on the canal, when I was given the moniker Nautical Derek thanks to my expert narrow boat steering skills. If I hadn't known any better, I'd have thought I was employed just to help the team get to the pub and back without crashing and springing a titanic-esque leak that day! The Derek part is because is because I'm named after my Granddad - do a quick backwards switcharoo with the letters, add a y and hey presto, you've got yourself a unique name that only a slightly crazy mother would think of. I am the only Keredy.
As Pete walked through the door yesterday he called me by my new name straightaway and it struck me just how much first impressions count. Luckily for me, I find the name hilarious and I have no reason to shake it off but whether I like it or not, Nautical Derek is now a subsection of the Keredy brand. Even if you don't think X, Y and Z about yourself but everyone else does, then that's what you become - perception is reality.
I'm not sure exactly which clients I'll be working with yet but finding the correct tone to reflect a brand or product is something I am quite passionate about. I have worked predominantly in the public sector so I expect the language cross-over will be quite interesting. Also, although I have studied the use of new media applications I haven't been able to put my full knowledge into practice yet due to the lack of new media integration in public authority communications. Tone is also very dependent on the platform being used and I'm very much looking forward to exploring how traditional PR, search and social can be as one in a campaign whilst also working independently. My journey with Punch starts here!
