Costly Pipeline Repairs can be Avoided with E-joints, says FT Pipeline Systems

Posted: Monday 22 August, 2011

Expensive costs related to the repair of steel pipes in pipeline networks can be avoided through the use of the FT E-joint according to FT Pipeline Systems, a leading provider of steel water pipelines in the UK.

Spigot and socket jointing systems are commonly used for steel pipelines with low and medium pressure requirements, but for potable water systems where an internal epoxy coating to the pipes is required, the external fillet weld invariably damages the internal lining during the installation process.

The FT E-Joint overcomes this problem because it includes an air pocket, which drastically reduces the heat transfer to the internal surface, removing the risk of the internal pipe lining being damaged during installation. As such, if and when repairs to a pipeline are required, it isn’t necessary to send a man back inside the pipe to fix the internal lining.

Duncan Frazer, managing director of FT Pipeline Systems, said: “The FT E-joint can be a significant money saver when it comes to pipeline repairs. The need for an engineer to enter the pipe to conduct repairs can be a major hassle when conducting repairs, both in terms of cost and logistics, so investing in the FT E-joint as opposed to using the usual spigot or socket joints is most definitely a smart move for pipe engineers.

FT Pipeline Systems is the UK’s leading supplier of steel pipes and pipe fittings for use on a wide variety of pipe networks, both above and below ground level.  FT Pipeline Systems also provides a range of pipe jointing and locking lid solutions, as well as expertise in management and implementation of pipe network installations and repairs.
