Beer Compass

I am pleased to report that a most enjoyable weekend was spent identifying my favourite real ale pubs, inspired as I was by Qype, Europe's largest local search and recommendation website.

Qype has announced this week the launch of Qype Radar and nru, two location based applications for iPhone and Google Android market that allow users to browse personal reviews and recommendations from Qype users for each venue and, once a preference is selected, use the inbuilt satellite navigation device to get to their chosen venue.

Genius, a compass on your phone, directing you to the best pubs (and subsequently kebab houses...honestly, it does) in your area based on your likes and dislikes. A tweedy old real ale fan I may be, but I have an iPhone, and a thirst!

For your interest, here is the list that I have come up with. I'm not confident that this is a definitive list, so I welcome any input you may have:

1. Anchor & Hope, The Cut, Southwark, London

2. Althorp Coaching Inn, Great Brington, Northamptonshire

3. Prince's Head, The Green, Richmond, London

4. The Lansdowne, Primrose Hill, London

5. The Bull's Head, Barnes, London

6. The Eel Pie, Twickenham, London

7. The Guinea, Mayfair, London

8. The Red Lion, St James, London

9. The Queen Adelaide, Kingsthorpe Village, Northamptonshire

10. The Anglesea Arms, South Kensington, London
