SEO Weekly News Round Up
Each week we provide a roundup of search engine industry news in our Search Engine Intelligence report. This week, we thought we'd share some of the news here. Although not primarily search based, hot off the press last week was Mark Zuckerberg’s appearance at the Tech Crunch Disrupt event in San Francisco, speaking about the future of Facebook. As the social network is currently handling over a billion queries per day – which is, in his words, “without even trying” - questions have arisen as to whether Facebook will create its own search engine. Zuckerberg said although there are no concrete plans for this at the moment, at some point, it may, and if it does, he is sure it will hold a significant place in the market.
In other news, the latest comScore figures have been released for August 2012. Although Google still dominates the U.S market share with 66.4%, a 0.4% drop from July means Bing has enjoyed a rise in search share, from 15.7% in July to 15.9%, an all-time high for the company. Google is also apparently testing a new navigational layout, with results such as ‘Maps’ and ‘Images’ now being seen by some above the results as opposed to being listed at the side of the page.
Finally, for those who want to become more SEO savvy, Google is re-releasing a new online (and free) course, called Power Searching With Google. First run back in July, the course is designed to empower users with the tools and knowledge to find what they are looking for more quickly and efficiently.
