Companies Now Using Search In Adverts

I was casually watching Doc Martin on the television last night when I noticed an advert for government social workers (you know, the one with the cup of tea). It wasn't the main part of the advert that interested me (although on thought, it is very good), it was the fact that at the end, the advert actually referred people to a search term as well as a phone number or website.

This is the first time that I have noticed an advert do this, and shows that search has become such a prominent part of our lives that advertisers are recognising it as a valuable reference point as well as a way of being found online. On thought, most people are more likely to search for a complex government website using a search engine than by typing the URL in manually, and so it makes sense to give people a directional arrow in the form of keywords.

The extent to which this will potentially spread as a trend is open to debate, but it will nonetheless be a useful tool for the future. Although it is perhaps more redundant for brands who would simply have their name searched for, this could be a good strategy for lesser known establishments or even those so big that they need to highlight a specific aspect of their organisation (as in the example).

I'd give you the URL for the website, but since you have the keywords now, why not go search?
