CTEK Launches Specialist Charger For Boating Battery Woes

Posted: Wednesday 22 July, 2009

CTEK, the leading worldwide innovator and supplier of lead acid battery chargers has launched the M45 12 Volt battery charger to provide boat owners with a safe and effective method of charging and maintaining the boat's battery - as well as counteract the common threat of overcharging.

Overcharging can occur when boat owners opt for a higher voltage in order to accelerate the rate of battery charge, this can be detrimental to the state of the battery if the charge is continued for any length of time after reaching capacity.

However, this problem can be easily averted with the CTEK M45 as its patented technology offers a fully automatic charging cycle, taking individual readings and then using this information to power and care for the battery - using patented pulse maintenance. The CTEK M45 has been specially developed to cater to the battery needs of different boats by allowing users to choose between three different modes. The low current mode is ideal for smaller12V batteries (such as used in jet skis), the higher current mode is for marine applications with battery applications up to 75Ah for charging and up to 120ah for maintenance while an additional AGM mode is specially aimed at the powering and maintenance of AGM batteries.

The CTEK M45 has been specially developed in order to produce no harmful galvanic currents that can cause corrosion - a serious danger to the many metal components under the boat - including propellers and ladders.

The CTEK M45 can be left attached to the battery indefinitely; once the charging process is complete, the unit automatically stops emitting any charge and thereafter analyses the voltage level of the battery every 30 minutes, topping up levels only when needed. This means that overcharging is avoided and that the battery is charged to its maximum potential and ready for use at any point subsequently.

To protect from overheating, the M45 charger is fitted with a temperature compensator which reduces the power output when the ambient temperature increases and also if the charger were to be covered, protecting the chargers from damage - the charger continues to work, but at a lower output. The M45 is water and dust resistant, reverse polarity protected and short circuit proof making it completely safe and foolproof to use
