DIY Disasters

I've recently moved into a new, bare shell of a house which I knew was going to require me to put my, never used before, DIY skills to the test. At the time I remember thinking ‘how difficult can it be?'. For some the answer would be ‘not very' but for me...well here's what's happened so far.
It's not a huge place so we've (me and girlfriend) tried to utilise space by putting up blinds rather than curtains - I think we saw that on some Sarah Beeny show. However, of the 6 blinds we've bought, 4 are now in the bin with either the fabric in taters or the metal hanging poles bent and cut to completely the wrong size.
It doesn't stop there - unfortunately. When drilling, despite already marking the holes, I can't for some reason, get them to match up after the holes are in the walls. Retractable washing lines (another Beeny space saving tip) toilet roll holders, the house number, the list goes on, are all put up with three screws rather than four because the fourth just won't line up! Nevertheless, they all seem to be fairly sturdy.
This weekend going to be a little different with the pressure to get things right higher than ever before. I'm hanging two 32" and one 42" inch screen televisions onto various walls - watch this space and I'll let you know how much my insurance policy goes up.
