Do you speak Google+?

There has been a lot of activity around the Punch Comms office as we sink our teeth into the latest social network, Google+.  As I type, it is in a live “beta” mode where individuals must be invited before they are able to sign up.

There are currently over 20 Million users on Google+, which has made it one of the fastest growing networks, considering when it launched. This number, while very impressive given the short space of time it has been ‘live’, is not surprising.  Social networks of this nature have been in the public sphere from around 2002 and have gained popularity exponentially each year since.  Facebook now has over 750 Million users and Twitter surpassed over 200 Million users this year.  From the popularity of social media, the user base for all social networks will continue to grow very quickly.

Google+ may only be in ‘beta’ mode now, but over the weekend anyone will be able to sign up for a personal account. For me, Google+ has been fun to try out.  I love the ‘Circles’ element as I can organise my contacts easily. I’m looking forward to seeing how fast Google+ will be adopted by the general public and how people will balance the overlap of social networks. Will you be signing up to Google+?
