In addition the f-commerce shops popping up on the social network, Warner Bros has developed an application giving users the ability to digitally rent films directly through Facebook. Now movie fans won’t have to trek to the video shop only to find that the film they wanted to watch is out of stock. Warner Bros Digital Distribution is the first of the movie distribution companies to test this new platform. Using Facebook credits, consumers can choose to either rent or purchase a digital download of their film of choice and watch it instantly through Facebook.

Currently only available in the US, the first film that that consumers will be able to rent through the new system will be The Dark Knight. Warner Bros have already created apps that enable streaming or downloading to smartphones and tablets, including one for The Dark Knight. Continuing with their innovation for digital distribution it’s a natural progression to take advantage of Facebook’s large audience and interact directly with the fans. I hope this service comes to the UK soon!
