Full House

Today is going to be a busy day at Punch because every member of the team is working from our Market Harborough farm HQ, something that doesn’t happen very often. As I write, it’s already a bustling hub of activity and noise and the London posse haven’t got here yet! Oh and our Chairman has just walked in - we’re a full house plus one. Also on the plus side, extra bodies means more heat so me and Alex might be able to take our gloves off soon!
When everyone is here I’m not sure if we’re going to play a game of musical chairs or draw straws to see who gets to work outside on the wall in the rain but my plan is to somehow tie myself to my desk with computer leads. All we need is pin the tail on the donkey, or we could use a cow from the field next door, some party hats and a few sausage rolls and we can have an early office Christmas party.
Joking aside, I think we’re all really looking forward to today because you just can’t beat face to face contact and today is the perfect opportunity to prioritise having real conversations. Most of the time we all communicate by email, as the majority of businesses do these days, so no matter where the members of the team are we all get the information and obviously things can be saved and filed. However, sometimes it’s just best to talk, especially to bounce ideas off each other; facial expressions and tone of voice help to stimulate energy and creativity. Plus I think it’s easy to forget that taking the time out to chat to colleagues about wider issues, their opinions, ideas and even what’s going on in their personal lives helps you to get to know them better, which results in a better working relationship and essentially higher productivity and job satisfaction.
So, yes it’s going to be a noisy and demanding day but by its end I bet we will have all learned something new about each other and go home with an extra big smile on our faces.
