Happy Fifth Birthday, Twitter

This week the social network giant, Twitter approaches its fifth birthday and its popularity doesn't look set to slow down any time soon. With over 200 million registered accounts and over 140 million tweets posted everyday, the microblogging service has grown from strength to strength since its debut five years ago this week.
The creator, co-founder and chairman of Twitter Jack Dorsey, who boasts the simple username @Jack, sent out a series of tweets on Monday 16th March chronicling the birth of the social media phenomenon;
@Jack - 5 years ago today, we had design, login, & update. There were only 2 people on twttr, me & @florian.
Five years later and we're all addicted. Although I have to admit to being somewhat of a Twitter novice when I first joined Punch nearly a year ago, nowadays I do not feel like my day is complete unless I have either tweeted or browsed through my feed to see what others I am following are getting up to.
With this time now passed, I look forward to seeing the progression and influence that Twitter will continue to have, not only on the world of public relations and media, but also popular culture and social interaction, over the next five years.
