Introducing the Sun on Sunday

It’s been the talk of tipsters for months, ever since the closure of the News of the World, but last weekend the news we’ve all been waiting for was announced – the Sun on Sunday is coming.
With the Leveson inquiry taking centre stage and the recent arrest (and release) of a handful of Sun reporters I ponder - is the announcement in bad taste or welcome news for Sun fans who dearly miss a Sunday edition?
One thing is for sure, despite heavy criticism and downright hatred, Rupert Murdoch isn’t one to shy away from a challenge and he certainly manipulated his media spotlight to get the news out loud and clear. So while critics are split between the ethics of the situation versus the brazenness of the brand, I consider the opportunities the Sun on Sunday brings with it. From a PR perspective the introduction of a new publication provides additional platform and content placement opportunities – surely a good thing? Yet from a personal perspective the phone hacking scandal left a bad taste which is still evident with the reading of any national newspaper.

Well only time will tell how well the public receives the newspaper, but one thing I am confident of – this Sunday the queues at newsstands will be long and I will definitely be getting my copy to see what all the fuss is about!
