Let The Red Cups Roll!

Andy Williams is right; it’s the most wonderful time of the year! Starbucks has rolled out the red cups with their signature seasonal drinks. As a coffee lover, more like, obsessive, I get excited about these things. But most of all, I’m excited about the eggnog latte.  

I often wax lyrical about the cultural difference between the British and Americans and eggnog definitely falls into this category.  It’s a beverage that is quintessentially Christmas in America although it originated in Europe as an alcoholic beverage with brandy, whisky or rum. According to About.com, in the 17th century, eggnog was used as a toast to one’s health and was consumed by the high society as milk and eggs were scarce commodities in Europe.  

I favour the non-alcoholic variety with flavours of tasty vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg.  Unfortunately for me, the only way I get my precious eggnog around the Christmas season is in a Starbucks eggnog latte.  Let the red cups roll!
