Whilst Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Google+ dominate the world of social networks, there is another industry giant that is often neglected when compiling a social media marketing plan.
LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network and has amassed over 175 million users worldwide since its launch in 2003. Perhaps the reason the network is sometimes overlooked is that the site primarily focused on professional individuals until the introduction of Company Profiles followed by a Company Directory in 2008. With the introduction of Company Pages in 2010, subsequent redesigns and subtle updates have aided the Pages to go from strength to strength and they have now evolved into slick, engaging experiences packed full of features and insights – including Company Updates that have been enhanced with performance metrics.
LinkedIn Company Pages can be used as an additional editorial channel in much the same way as Facebook and Twitter, as long as you bear in mind the platform's distinct audience. LinkedIn is a professional network, so its members will expect to see updates closely related to your business area or expertise – LinkedIn is no place for sharing comedic kitty images! Company Updates can include everything from a link to your latest company blog post to a piece of advice pertinent to your industry.
With the recent facelift and additional features given to Company Pages, LinkedIn now offers businesses the scope to really showcase their strengths as well as the opportunity to engage with a new audience.
