Picture Perfect Holiday

I love to document and photograph the things that happen in my kitchen and I was recently inspired by a New York Times Diner's Journal article by Andrew Scrivani about How to Shoot the Holiday Table. As part of my family is far away, I like to share what happens in our house by posting my photos on Facebook or sending via email. I'll be sure to take notes from Andrew's article on capturing my holiday table in all its glory.
As the holidays are quickly approaching, I've been thinking a lot of how the table will look. I put a lot of thought into things like the colour scheme, whether I serve everything in separate dishes or do I let people serve themselves buffet style from the kitchen and do I use paper napkins or cloth napkins. This may sound silly or even a bit crazy, but this is the one aspect of the Christmas meal I have absolute control over. The table is the first impression of what is to be an amazing meal. So I want to make sure it is perfect. This year the sprouts with pancetta and chestnuts, roast potatoes, stuffing and the turkey will each have their own dish on the table decorated with handmade Christmassy cloth napkins on a red tablecloth with silver Christmas tree placeholders sparkling in the candlelight.
I can't wait to test out my new camera, try out the techniques suggested in Andrew's article and show off, I mean share, with my family back in California. Roll on Christmas day!
