According to Punch client Martek Medical, one in five people that suffer a sudden cardiac arrest do so in a public place such as a train station or an airport – Explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes even suffered one at Bristol Airport and it was only the on-site defibrillator that saved his life.

As I have researched and written about defibrillators for the past month or two in my varied role as a public relations professional, I think it’s safe to say I now know more than the average person on the subject of sudden cardiac arrest. But following a conversation with a friend over the weekend, it would seem that my knowledge would match that of a medically-trained nurse!

I am sure the rest of the Punch team are breathing a sigh of relief knowing that should they suffer a sudden cardiac arrest I am the person most qualified to help them. Then again, maybe not.
