Well, not completely - but major sites such as Facebook and Twitter were subject to enormous distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks today.
Twitter in particular was brought down completely for an extended period, which was ironic for us Brits as London was today officially confirmed as having the largest density of twitter users in the world.
