The Demise Of The Free Newspaper

An interesting bit of news arose today in that News International announced its intention to close thelondonpaper.

It has been interesting to see the reaction to this news, as whilst many journalists stand to lose their jobs through this development, many have been happy to see that it will no longer be available, particularly on their commutes to work and back.

With lots of people on the Brand Repuplic website and indeed on Twitter commenting that they were sick of the constant barrage of the newspapers' distribution force on their way to work, it seems that the newspaper could well have taken a lesson in customer service. Also criticised were the newspapers news values, leading me to believe that the London Lite may not be too far behind.

It is also interesting that this comes so soon after Rupert Murdoch announced a plan to monetise The Times. This development is likely a sign of what lies ahead in the future of free newspapers.
