I was surprised that it wasn't created sooner but this week, following a successful Twitter, YouTube and Flickr profile - the British Monarchy has launched a Facebook page. With over 200,000 fans in a matter of days it looks set to be a great success and I for one think that it's a great idea.

I don't profess to have a vast amount of knowledge on the Royal Family as a whole (expect for maybe Prince William's marital status or perhaps Prince Harry's nightclub antics), therefore I think it's brilliant that the British Monarchy is finally taking measures to reach a completely different audience. It will hopefully encourage a generation, that has very little knowledge of the British Monarchy, to gain a better understanding and appreciation for its existence.

Not only does The British Monarchy Facebook page display links to YouTube videos of Royal visits, but it also posts images of members on the Royal family alongside ‘Court Circular' notifications on Royal events - all updated via The Royal Household. However personally, my favourite aspect of the page is the ‘Near Me' application in which I can use a map to find out about Royal visits to my area. It looks like Princess Anne is getting busy in Northampton, however sadly Prince Harry doesn't have any visits planned in the near future - better luck next time eh?
