To thine Twitter self be true

This week the ex-top man at Twitter, Evan Williams, broke the news that they assign a Reputation Score to every user on the Network. This in turn then powers the Who to Follow feature. So, every tweet you make, whether it gets retweeted, who you follow, who follows you, who they follow and in turn who follows them counts. Sound familiar?

The similarities to the web are very plain to see. In the same way that Search Engines provide an easy way to find the most relevant page to a query it would be useful if there was a way to see how credible a Twitter user was. This is where Reputation Scores come in.

So, how bad do you want it? Do you want the cool kids to like you or the chess club? If your Reputation Score is the sum total of all your actions then you’d better be careful who you hang out with. Although we don’t know the fine print it seems logical that you should be able to shape your Reputation Score – let’s face it you’ve already done that – but would you sculpt it?

For me, the answers no, I’ll follow Polonious’s advice.
