Twitter Facilitates Embedded Media

The news about Twitter enabling users to embed media within twitter feeds is really interesting as it may well start to close the gap between Twitter and Facebook in terms of marketeers' perception of where each site can sit within an integrated digital strategy.
It's undoubtedly become the case that Facebook has stolen a charge on Twitter - at least in terms of it's role alongside branded domains in promotional activity.
Whilst the core functionality of the two sites is completely different, marketers at many major brands have gravitated primarily to Facebook to date. This 'facebook-esque' functionality is a step towards addressing this from Twitter's point of view which one could certainly argue is a good move from Twitter's perspective as it addresses market demand. However it does occur to me that this could also be perceived as a step away from the core purpose of the service, as a communications outreach and one-to-one conversational tool, simply in order to follow the market.
Frankly though, I can't see how it could be negative as this announcement simply emulates the functionality of other blogging sites, such as Posterous, which already allow embedable media.
There's a release on this with some more of our thoughts on the subject here.
