Twitter launches new 'Activity' updates

In the midst of the Google+ brand page development, last week saw a handful of social media news stories somewhat overlooked – including the introduction of the new Twitter 'Activity' feed.
Replacing the '@mentions' tab and 'Retweets' tab with the more complete '@[username]' and'activity' tab – users can now view the activity of the profiles they follow in more depth, such as seeing the tweets being 'favourited' and the new users being followed. Simply, these latest changes mean that more detail is displayed, giving the user a greater insight into other people's activities in one single feed.

The format change, which is still being rolled out to Twitter users around the world, has been compared to the Facebook home feed page, in which users can see exactly what their friends are doing and who they are networking with. As with most changes to popular social media sites, the updates have received a number of criticisms, with users claiming Twitter is now revealing too much information; whereas with Facebook, people can choose the extent to which they view other peoples activity, Twitter is yet to develop such a screening process.
I'm sure that those criticising the changes will soon come to embrace the new tabs – I'm certainly looking forward to seeing who those I follow are choosing to follow, as I think it will be a great way to discover new and interesting profiles that I perhaps would have overlooked before.
