Sportingo, which empowers sports fans to become expert pundits through creating and sharing opinion, has announced that Andriy Shevchenko (Chelsea), Juan Sebastian Veron (Manchester United) and Sergei Rebrov (Tottenham Hotspurs) were the worst transfers in English football history, according to more than 6,500 fans.
Thousands of online supporters logged on to put their vote forward airing disappointment at the £70million flops on the eve of the opening of the transfer window, in January 2008. Ukrainian ace, Andriy Shevchenko topped the table by quite some way, receiving 2857 of the 6677 votes. The former Dynamo Kyiv and AC Milan legend joined Chelsea in 2006 for the heavy price tag of £30million plus a weekly wage of around £120,000.
In second place is Manchester United dud Juan Sebastian Veron with 1069 of the votes. Sir Alex had high hopes for the Argentinean play-maker following his transfer from Lazio in 2001. Another Ukrainian that had ability but failed to impress in the Premiership took the number three spot with 635 votes. Sergei Rebrov, the highest ever scorer in the Ukrainian League with 120 goals in 249 appearances, left Dynamo Kyiv for Tottenham Hotspur in 2000 for a fee £11 million.
