I was glancing around the Google Research Blog earlier this week and found a pretty interesting post around some of Google’s exploration into the sharing of tasks across multiple devices as well as content.

It seems that Google has been working on a way to quickly transfer one task, such as looking at Google Maps directions, from one device (say a desktop computer) to another (a smartphone or tablet) using the device’s camera. Nicknamed “Deep Shot”, all you need to do is take a picture of whatever task you want to transfer – the software then brings that picture to life and makes it interactive on whichever device you used to take the picture.

This could be hugely advantageous for loads of reasons, but the one that resonated with me the most was the speed of it. If this can make switching the devices as easy as it seems, this could be a big influence over the way that people work, and more interestingly, the way that they work together. No longer will you need to store that presentation on a memory stick – just take a picture. Need to shut your work doc and get on the tube? Just snap it with your tablet…
